They have three adult sons (all three Eagle Scouts) and a daughter (a Girl Scout Gold Award recipient). Their youngest son has graduated from the United States Naval Academy. Mark’s parents still live in the same house where he was raised, in Arlington, and mother started a local CPA practice in downtown Arlington now run by his younger brother. "Dr. Shelton Goes to Austin"

Dr. Shelton spent years raising his family, building his practice, and being involved in his community.

Dr. Shelton was involved in Lena Pope Home Board and traveled with other board members to Austin to explain to the legislators how to create good policy for children in the Foster Care System.   There was a real need for understanding of this vulnerable population. He continued his involvement by going to Austin to testify about the importance of immunizations and other health care issues—including tort reform. Over time he began to see a need for service and wanted his lend his expertise and develop good policy for the future or Texas. His first race in ‘08 for the Texas House was run from the kitchen table with wonderful volunteers. Mark Shelton is not a career politician; he is a person who wants to make a difference, who wants to serve.

The Conservative Leader We Need

Dr. Mark Shelton served as a two term Republican State Representative.

He  served on the Texas House Committees for Public Education and Appropriations and on the House Border and Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. He has also authored legislation for stricter sex offender registration requirements, children's and women’s healthcare, homeowner rights and protection of pro-life/pro-family values. Mark is a leader against federal government intrusions and is one of Texas' most outspoken critics against Obamacare. He is “A” rated by the NRA and his legislative leadership awards include recognition as a “Health Care Hero,” “Legislator of the Year” and “Taxpayer Advocate.”
